islam and Productivity

Islam and productivity. How does Islam inspire productivity?

When was the last time you read the Quran? A  Great challenge Indeed!

I feel really connected with Word of Allah in English. I feel that Arabic recitation reaches the heart and our own language reaches our Akal or intellect. The best way to go is to learn Arabic but for those of us who cannot do that yet, we should listen in Arabic and read in English at the same time to fully engage our heart and our intellect. This is truly a great approach and I hope that we can keep our word and participate. Lets pray for each other and let’s get started.

The Holy Quran is Allah’s message to human beings.

In the Quran Allah talks to us, and tells us how to live our lives so that we are successful in this world as well as in the Hereafter.

The Quran gives us a formula to live by “Surely in Allah’s remembrance do the hearts find peace”(13:28).

The Quran’s prescription relieves us from meaningless worries and gives us a simple formula to true happiness and peace. The Quran is made up of 114 Surahs (or chapters), which consist of more than 6,000 verses. The verses are known as ayaat (ayah singular), which literally means ‘signs’. The second Surah, Suraal-Baqarah, is the longest in the entire Quran (containing 286 verses) and was one of the last to  be revealed. The shortest Sura is al-Kauther(108) (containing 4 verses). The Quran is divided into 30 Juz’ (or Siparahs). This was done by the Muslims for convenience of recitation. Those who wish to complete the recitation in a month can recite one Juz’ each day.

Many Muslims do this during the holy month of Ramadan.  Each Juz’ is divided into four quarters, again for convenience of recitation. The sections are

named; Rubu’ (quarter), Nisf (half), and Thalathah (three-quarters).The Ruku’ (or Makrah) is a section or paragraph of the Quran. It usually talks about a certain

topic, and is separated from the next paragraph by a mark on the side of the Quran

Sura al-Fatiha is the first chapter of the Quran, and is thus known as the Opening (meaning of al-

Fatiha). It is also known as the Saba’a al-Mathani (seven most often repeated verses) as it is

repeated daily in Salaat. The first verses of the Quran to be revealed are the first five verses of Sura al-Alaq (#96). The first word was ‘Iqraa’ (read).

Muslims believe that the Quran was verbally revealed from God to prophet muhammad through the angel Gabriel when Muhammad was 40.Muslims regard the Quran as the most important miracle of Muhammad, the proof of his prophethood and the culmination of a series of divine messages that started with the messages revealed to Adam and ended with Muhammad.

LEARNING AND TEACHING QURAN

The messenger of Allah (Blessings and Peace be upon him) said (Reported by Bukhari). “The best of you is he who learns and teaches the Quran”.  Furthermore, to reflect on Allah’s verses from the Quran is a form of worship and will draw one closer to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala.

GENERAL REQARDS OF RECITING THE QURAN

1. There are many rewards of reciting the Quran: An authentic hadith in At-Tirmithee states:

“Whoever reads a letter from the book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten”.So increase your recitation of the Qur’an to gain these merits, and to gain the following merit as well.

In another hadeeth, ‘Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, relates that the Prophet  said:

“Verily the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

This hadith also mentions  that people who are not well versed in the Arabic languge or have other difficulties in reciting the Quran, get even a higher reward for reciting the Quran in Arabic for their extra effort.

2.  A muslim’s status is raised by the Quran.

A muslim’s status is raised by the Quran in Paradise, the more he recites the Quran and follows its commandments and makes Quran past his or her life, the more Allah will elevate that person’s status in this life and hereafter.

In Saheeh Muslim, we find a lovely story, about how a man from the people of Jannah, ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, understood this principle. Some men came to question him during his khilaafah about the leadership of Makkah, they asked, “Who do you use to govern Makkah?” He said, “Ibn Abzaa.” They asked, “And who is Ibn Abzaa?” Umar replied, “A freed slave from those we freed.” They remarked, “You left a freed slave in charge of the people of the Valley (the noble tribes of the Quraysh)!?!?” So he answered them, “Verily he is a reader of the Book of Allah and is knowledgeable about the obligations of the Muslims. Haven’t you heard the statement of your Messenger: “Verily Allah raises some people by this Book and lowers others by it.

3. Your position is determined by the amount of Quran you memorize in this life.

Abdullaah bin ‘Amr bin Al-‘Aas heard the Prophet saying: “It will be said to the companion of the Quran: 'Read and elevate (through the levels of Paradise) and beautify your voice as you did when you were in the worldly life! For verily, your position in Paradise will be at the last verse you recite!’” [Abu Daawood and At-Tirmithi].

4. Rewards for reciting Ayahs and Surahs

Ayatul kursi: Someone who reads Ayatul Kursi after every salah will be under the protection of and security of Allah.

The Surah fatihah:  Prophet Muhammad said that the Surah Fatiha is a cure for every illness.

Surah Kahf: Ibn Mardwiyah from Ibn Omar-may Allah  be pleased with them both-who said the Messenger of Allah said,” whoever reads Surahtul Kahf on Yaumul Jumuah, for him light would shine for beneath his foot to Aden in the heavens, shining for him on the last Day and he will be forgiven for what occurs between the 2 Fridays.

5. Reciting the Quran in the Month of Ramadan

The Quran will say this person stopped from seeking ease and comfort during the nights of Ramadan and they abstained from sleep in reading or reciting the Quran.

Here is some ways of how you can finish reading Quran in Ramadan.

Objectives: To finish reading whole Quran in Ramadan

Ways: Read 4 page after each salat. Try to read with meaning.

5 times salat X 4 page = 20 page each day

20 pages = 1 Para

1 para X 30 days = 30 para

Subhanallah! see how Allah Subhanahu Wa Tala made easy for us.

Quran is Allah’s grace to mankind. It is a miracle of prohet Muhammad and a spiritual force. Therefore it is the duty of every muslim to complete the Quran in the Holy month of Ramadan.
